I ordered and returned this book. I am from Oregon and the only scholarships that were in it for Oregon colleges were through OSAC, which I go to yearly anyways. I was under the impression that it would have a variety of scholarships other than the one place that I already knew about. What a waste of money

With our first child entering college soon, we purchased 2-3 scholarship books. I was drawn to this one since the authors claims to have paid for their entire education with scholarships.

However, the information is out of date. Using the companion website with the book only leads to dead links.

Most telling is THEIR OWN SCHOLARSHIP, which is still listed in the book, but hasn’t been offered in two years.

Great Book, August 8, 2011

This is my second year using this scholarship book. It is so much easier to use than trying to find scholarships on the internet. I would highly recommend this to everyone looking for scholarships. There are scholarships for every grade and age ranging from graduate students to high schoolers. The book is easy to use and I was able to find over 30 scholarships that applied to me.

Helpful, June 18, 2011

This is one of the best scholarship books that I have come across when compared to other scholarship books. With my low GPA but creative talent, it has become difficult to find scholarships that I qualify for. With this book alone, I have managed to find 34 total that fit my criteria — 24 of which fall into the general categories while the other 10 fall into the Humanities/Arts category. When compared to these two other scholarship books I had; those books combined, I only found 5 that fit my requirements with only 2 being applicable to me. So this book is good for scholarship searching which is the main reason I got it.

I hate buying something without a review, but I decided to try this one anyway. It has some very good tips that I haven’t seen anywhere else, such as “Get your application out of the stack.” I wouldn’t buy the hard copy, but there is a digital version at lulu.

Pay attention, November 17, 2012

What’s not to like about this terse, common sensical take on a rather mundane topic which nonetheless seems to baffle a lot of people? My initial reaction was something like, “Uh oh, here’s another dilettante who has worked a few years in the field peddling obvious tripe and making it sound as if he’s deciphered the Rosetta Stone .” But no, not at all. The Judge knows his stuff, spares us the trivia, highlights what needs to be and renders tangential what should be and does it all with humor, incisiveness and style. Sure a lot of what’s here should be obvious to most folks but that’s the point, it tends not to be. Why else would a caution such as, “Follow the directions.” be given status and bold type? Because too many candidates do not and therefore render their applications ordinary or worse yet, unacceptable. Duh, but I guess not. Succinct, witty and loaded with practical tips, I recommend this effort highly. My only quibble, and it’s not unique to this book, is that there are too many grammatical and spelling mistakes given the nature of the topic and the fact that the Judge warns us often to avoid just those kinds of numbskull gaffes which can sink an otherwise exemplary application. He tells us that every little detail counts because the competition is so fierce that even tiny slips can stand out negatively in the sorting. But I nitpick. Read this handy guide, pay attention and you just could be the richer for it.

A must read for every high school student!, April 11, 2013

As a high school counselor I answer questions almost daily about the college scholarship application process. I plan to recommend this book to my students. I found the book to be reader friendly and packed with great information, tips, and suggestions for success.

Not for Returning Students, February 3, 2013

This is an excellent book – for high schoolers. If you are an older or mature adult returning to school, look elsewhere for the extra help. I couldn’t even find ONE that applied to my age or financial special needs category. There need’s to be a book like this for returning students thirty years and older.

Excellent Resource, December 9, 2012

The book is the definite listing for scholarships out there. It’s a bit on the big side, but it isn’t too hard to find what you are looking for. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in scholarships (then donate it to your local school).
